-SEAL Team PT is so out of the ordinary - so much fun while working harder than I've ever worked (even when rowing years ago). I'm the oldest and most unfit in the class, and I'm struggling to keep up.
I'm there and happy to be there because the people involved are so amazingly supportive - the instructors, members and my classmates - I always feel that they want me to succeed. The classes are always interesting as you never know what's coming - well, I take that back - I always know push-ups are coming! I so appreciate the amount of work, dedication, and care that the instructors put into making the workouts varied, both in place and what we do. It's fantastic being outside, no matter what the conditions. It feels more natural than a gym, more connected - I love breaking the insulation that we live in.
The spirit of teamwork is my favorite part - all of us helping the other. My favorite thing that Instructor McGuire says is "we're not alone on the planet." This program really is phenomenal on many levels - physical, mental and spiritual. And, it's a big adventure that clearly anyone, whatever age or fitness level, can participate in. I'm looking forward to a year from now, when I can run with the eighteen-year olds!!

--Hi John, I have been enjoying the workouts this week and am definitely feeling sore, but getting stronger each day.I'm looking forward to next week with the Seal Team PT. Thanks, Russ
--Instructor McGuire,
I have really enjoyed the class thus far. On the first day, I worked myself too hard with the class then cross country practice without rehydrating in between, but I am trying to get into a better routine which will include enough sleep, food, and rehydration to keep up my energy. I have really enjoyed being a part of a team where discipline, cooperation, and mutual respect are so key (I wish all of these characteristics applied to every area of my life, but being in the class has inspired me to implement them where I can). I feel so empowered in class every day and I am starting to show more confidence outside of class as well. After only a week, I feel so much stronger, both physically and mentally, and I am much more confident about my capabilities and goals. I look forward to whatever may come in next week's workouts! I also just wanted to add that lake day today was my favorite workout so far. It really was extremely fun! Also, I have a couple of friends who are interested in coming for bring a friend day next week, but we all have 8am classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so they would not want to come on either of those days. I understand if you already had a day planned out, but I just thought I would let you know in case it influences your planning or works well in the schedule. Hopefully I will be able to bring some other UVA students whichever day it happens to be.
Thank you so much for a great week and I look forward to the next!
Ann
-Instructor McGuire,
I can't tell you how pleased I am with my decision to join SEAL Team PT. I am 43, the mother of 4 kids, work and am in the worst physical shape of my life. I was ready to make a change and your program is a wonderful way to start. I can't stand indoor training and love the quality of working out outdoors, dirt, rain, and all. My only regret is that my work schedule prevents me from being there daily and graduating with my group. Despite the physical discomfort of the first week, I have found myself in a much better mood. Thank you for investing in Charlottesville. I hope that we will do you proud. I will work hard this weekend to keep up. See you on Wednesday.
Marie (not Mary)
ps, I have never been known for smiling so much.
--Instructor McGuire,
I could write several pages on this topic but, knowing that you’re inundated with emails, I’ll try to keep it short. This is undoubtedly the most intense workout regimen I’ve ever participated in. Despite my current endurance shortcomings, I already feel a major transformation taking place in my body relative to its overall level of health and fitness. There’s no doubt in my mind that continued participation in Seal Team PT will allow me to achieve fitness results I never thought possible. In addition to the caliber of the workouts, I’ve been particularly impressed with the teamwork component of this program. Never before have I had such an appreciation for the fast, clear and concise transfer of information between team members. Each day I witness more examples of its direct impact on outcomes and performance. As someone who owns and manages two small businesses, there’s no doubt that skills learned in this program will improve the efficiency with which I handle my workload and ultimately the profitability of my companies. much for expanding this program to Charlottesville!

--Instructor McGuire,
It's been a tough week but I already feel stronger and am looking forward to next week! I can't say enough positive things about this program - from the strength and endurance training, to the positive reinforcement from everyone, to the teamwork, to the building of leadership skills - it's all been a great thing to be a part of. Even the getting up early part! I have no complaints (other than being sore but that's also a good thing). See you next week!
Sarah

--Instructor McGuire,
The first week of SEAL Team has been awesome! Although it has also been very, very tough, I have had a lot of fun working out with Class 1. Everyone is friendly, motivated and encouraging - even at 6am. I feel fantastic once I'm done with the workout and bounce on in to work with a cheerfulness that probably borders on irritating for my more recently awoken colleagues.
One of my favorite things about SEAL Team is taking an hour a day to roll around in the grass, play in the dirt and breathe in the fresh air. When you work in a cold, windowless cube for nine hours a day it can be easy to forget that the outdoors exists. I really like that SEAL Team gives us a dose of 'the real world' at the start of our day. Thank you so much for bringing SEAL Team to Charlottesville! I'm looking forward to more push ups, sit ups and teamwork next week.
Hoo yah!

--Instructor McGuire,
Feedback from this first week. It's been incredible. Pushing yourself to a new level physically, and doing it with other people, can create an deep camaraderie amongst a training group. I'm a long distance runner--I've run 5 marathons, including Boston--and as much as I love pounding the streets, it can be a lonely sport. Seal Team PT has been a great way to work on my overall strength with a bunch of great men and women.
I also agree with you about the joys of being alive, something magnified by seeing the sun rise in the morning.
Looking forward to next week,
Daniel
--John,
At first I honestly didn't know what to expect and being an average college student I certainly wasn't looking forward to waking up at 5:30. However, this class has exceeded my expectations. It once was a chore to wake up before the sun but now I look forward to it. Despite being sore and tired most of this week I can already feel myself getting in better shape. I honestly enjoyed seeing my friends' reactions to 'Bring a Friend' Day, not that I enjoyed that they were struggling, but seeing their reaction to what we've been doing for days now and then realizing again that this kind of workout is certainly not your every day aerobics class. I look forward to what the next week will bring. See you Monday bright and early.
Be blessed,
Tony
-Instructor McGuire:
This is one of the most unique and challenging fitness programs I have ever participated in. I find gym classes boring, and I enjoy (so far - the weather has been pretty good) the more hard core element of always being outside, in a different environment each day. It is a great alternative to normal routine programs.
