David Sayre

David Sayre - Instructor for SEAL Team Physical TrainingI grew up in Richmond not far from some of the parks where we work out with SEAL Team PT. In my youth I was an active in the boy scouts and enjoyed camping, backpacking, canoeing, and other outdoor activities. I spent my college years in Tucson Arizona and continued an active life hiking and running in the desert and mountains. In my 20’s I became a working man in the oil fields of west Texas and continued to run – always solo. I moved to Houston, Texas and began working in the environmental business and bicycling became my activity of choice when I fell in with a group of friends who were in the Houston Bicycle Club. When I was 30 I moved back to Richmond and started working as a consulting (environmental) geologist. I became very busy doing what consultants do (looking for work), with family, and maintaining a house in Richmond and a farm in Amelia County. I woke up one morning and realized I was fat, forty, and far from fit. My friend and coworker STPT Member Joel Daniel and I were eating lunch one day at the office and reading Style Magazine. We saw a picture on the front of Instructor Carol House doing some push ups and read the article about SEAL Team PT. Joel and I more or less dared each other to take the two week Basic Fitness Class. It was in the early summer and we were scared so we decided to try and get ready and wait until September when it was a little cooler. And that's what we did. I suffered during that first two weeks but was proud to get that STPT shirt. I was dead last on most of the runs. Now lots of years have gone by since I met Instructor McGuire. SEAL Team PT has changed my life. I work out with the team every day that I am in Richmond. I have learned to enjoy physical training, and Seal Team PT members inspire me to keep coming out and push for improvement.  Instructor Sayre "Slayer" can be found mostly leading workouts at the 5:45am and 6pm.
